I don’t think it’s necessarily the same as oxycodone, but it’s still something to get addicted to. I say the best way to quit something is cold turkey. Yeah, you’ll have the chills, sweats, no sleep, grumpiness, and pain, but it’s worth it. I’ve had friends be put on methadone to quit oxycontin, but they never quit. It’s just a never ending cycle.

Subutex is specifically used in withdrawal programs now, not for maintenance like methadone. A person is in withdrawal when they start otherwise subutex will put them into withdrawal. It is a combination of a pure opiod antagonist and an opiod agonist/antagonist. It relieves some of the withdrawal and then it is tapered down quickly. It also acts as an antidepressant for those with certain kinds of biochemisty.

Cold turkey is a miserable way to withdraw and most folks who attempt to do so suffer considerably and frequently fail to complete. Repeated attempts tend to be even worse as the anxiety about withdrawal becomes dominant. A taper is by far the best way because it can be comfortable and can be completed by almost everybody if done at the appropriate pace. Some medications can cause seizures and even death if quit cold turkey. Others can have years of lingering problems (protacted withdrawal syndome) from cold turkey. Cold turkey is the worst possible way of quitting most medications and can be dangerous or even deadly. I have observed thousands of sucessful tapers by people who had preiously been unable to quit any other way including too quick tapers.
